LO - Iowa CCR Academy 601: Advanced Equity Issues in Planning, Accessing & Financing Postsecondary Opportunities

Advanced preparation for college access professionals to support students and families as they
navigate the complexities of applying to and financing opportunities at postsecondary institutions.
The course provides an advanced understanding of unique issues related to the college application
and financial aid processes. The purpose includes further advancing school counselors’ and other
college access professionals’ knowledge of issues that arise in supporting traditionally
underrepresented students as they navigate the complexities of applying to postsecondary
institutions and financing various options. Participants will engage in interactive discussions in an
online learning environment, complete practical, hands-on activities throughout the course, and
examine the current literature and trends in college applications and financial aid.
Note: The terminology “college" is used throughout this course to refer to any postsecondary
education or training program in accordance with the Iowa College and Career Readiness definition:
Post-secondary opportunities include two or four-year degree programs, certificate or licensure
programs, apprenticeships, training programs in the military, on-the-job training, and industrybased
certifications.
