Let''s get engaged! No, not that kind of engagement. Classroom engagement! This course will study the text Total Participation Techniques by Persida Himmele and William Himmele. The course and text will provide easy-to-use alternatives to the "stand and deliver" method to teaching that can cause many students to zone out. You''ll learn dozens of methods to motivate K-12 students in active learning and allow them to demonstrate the depth of their knowledge and understanding. We''ll discuss and practice engaging methods in four categories: on-the-spot, hold up, involving movement, and note-taking and concept analysis. This practical course and text will have you thinking about ways that you can include more student engagement in your classroom and will also provide you with the tools to be able to do so. We''ll even share our own tips and tricks from our classrooms! Please join us as we work together to engage students, get them using their higher order thinking skills, and implement the ideas in our classrooms.
Important Note: Participants will need to purchase the book, Total Participation Techniques-1st Edition by Persida Himmele and William Himmele (ISBN-13: 978-1416612940). This book is available on amazon.com
